Edgartown to Nantucket

We got underway at about 10 a.m in pea soup fog heading to Nantucket.

Skies finally cleared about 8 miles off the coast. This is an organized group. We travelled in fog formation, keeping all the boats safe. 20+ boats from Marblehead invaded the tranquil waters of Nantucket Harbor about 2 p.m.

Imagine our surprise when we ran into one of our best friends who was staying on the island. Here's me and Linda having fun after some margaritas at Capt. Tobey's and the boys licking their chops after some mighty fine ice cream on the dock. What a life!

Scituate to Marion

What a beautiful day it was leaving Scituate at 0500 hours.

The sun was just coming up and we were prepared for a sunny day of sailing.

But this is a story that needs to start at the end of the day to get the full picture of yesterday's adventure. Welcome to Marion!

We landed in Marion around noon on Saturday. Temperature was in the 90s and the water temp is 85...much warmer than the 66 we left in Marblehead. We were fortunate the weather cooperated again. Then came time for the cocktail party. We had about 40 people standin by the docks enjoying yummy appetizers and beverages. Here's where the adventure began. Cam was heading back to our dinghy on the dock and his foot went between two docks. A 3" nail was sticking out and managed to plunge itself into Cam's leg. Ouch! Fortunately we have two doctors and a nurse on the cruise so he was well taken care of from the moment of injury. So that's how we ended in the emergency room at Tobey Hospital in Marion. An ambulance ride, complete with sirens and a teddy bear gift from the EMTs to Cam actually made it somewhat fun for him. What a trooper. Three hours later, or roughly 11:30 PM, we made it back to the boat and all crashed for the night.

Cam wants to push on to Edgartown so that's what we're doing. He's determined to collect a souvenir from every port. We have the rusty nail from Marion to start!

Welcome to Scituate

Well, we started our journey at 3:12 p.m. today and arrived in Scituate just before sunset. The weather was perfect--sunny, warm, and just enough wind. We had 15-20 knots all the way, which meant it was perfect for sailing. Well, almost. The wind was coming right over the bow much of the way so we did more motor sailing than just plain sailing. But no one here is complaining. We settled onto our mooring in Scituate Harbor, had a little BBQ of sausage and burgers, and now we're stowing our gear once again in preparation for an early start tommorrow. Heading to Marion at 6 am so we can make it through the canal before the currents become too strong to make the passage. Timing is everything when you're trying to get from one side of the Cape Cod Canal to the other. Hopefully the weather will continue to be with us on the next passage.
